WEDNESDAY TO THE WEDNESDAY POST!
And just like that…season two of the HBO reboot of Sex and the City is filming. Fresh off the heels of the Hocus Pocus 2 press tour, SJP took to Instagram to sneak our first look at what Carrie is up to in season two of And Just Like That…:
The JW Anderson pigeon clutch AND the Fendi ankle bag? The show’s costume designer, Molly Rogers (who worked under Patricia Field on the original series and subsequent movies) clearly knows our girls (though let’s not forget when Mr. Big got Carrie that Judith Leiberman clutch in season two…). Here’s hoping the writers do a better job than they did last season. Season two is set to premiere summer 2023—just in time for the show’s 25th anniversary.
The last few weeks for me have been consumed by finding an apartment, applying for an apartment, and then moving into said apartment. Moving in NYC is seriously no joke and truly one of the most stressful things I’ve had to deal with. Hence why the newsletter hasn't been the most consistent in recent weeks.
Anyway, the b*tch is back and ready to give you my thoughts on the general pop culture milieu and goings on…
VOGUE OFF
There have been rumors that Anna Wintour, long time Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue (since 1988) and the inspiration for Miranda Priestly, is going to step down from her post for years now. For years now, the infamous dragon lady has staunchly kept her clutches firmly clasped around her coveted post.
More recently, rumors have swirled that Edward Enninful, Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue is gunning for Wintour’s spot. Enninful worked under Wintour from 2006 up until he took his position across the pond. In his five years as Editor-in-Chief, Enninful has turned British Vogue into a publication to watch, with covers far rivaling and out-doing those of its American counterpart. For example:
The difference is—quite frankly—staggering. While British Vogue’s cover is giving freshness and opulence, the American cover is giving nothing more than staleness and budget cuts (sorry Dula Peep).
In Enninful’s recent memoir A Visible Man (which I’m reading right now and highly recommend), the EIC details his time under Anna’s wing as “creatively stifling.” Enninful has built a career off of championing black models and creatives in the fashion industry. His 2008 Vogue Italia Black Issue is the stuff of legend. According to A Visible Man, Wintour has an unofficial list of mostly white models that she is looking to bolster. One can obviously see the discrepancy in values.
When asked about Enninful succeeding her long reign, Wintour merely replied: “I always focus on the present.” Enninful was notably absent at Vogue World—the celebration of 130 years of Vogue—at NYFW last month.
SPEAKING OF BACK…
At this point I’m going to assume that everyone has heard the fabled story of fraudster Anna Delvey, the at one time thought to be New York socialite turned scammer. Well—she back! Last Friday, Delvey was released from immigration detention. What has she done since? Moved into an East Village walk up, did an interview with the New York Times, and given us a sidewalk sashay redefining the ankle monitor as the new fall must have accessory.
In her interview with the Times, Delvey stated that along with hatching new ways to style her ankle monitor, she is looking to write a book, launch a podcast, and maybe dabble in a little prison reform. Good for you, girl. Never change.
We’re already halfway through October. How is that possible?
